Do Consumers Want More Energy Efficient homes?
A recent study from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) found that energy saving features like cavity wall insulation and efficient heating systems are now more important to home buyers than friendly neighbours, a spacious garden or a fitted kitchen! We sent Olwyn Pritchard out to see if builders have also spotted this trend.

We wondered what local builders and homebuyers would say about the EST study, and decided to conduct a small survey of our own.

When told of the results of the study, a local builder, busy converting a barn on the side of a main road, who declined to be named, said, “ Oh, that’s all sorted out at design level, so we don’t get any hassle”. When asked if he had noticed whether the designs were requiring anything extra in the way of insulation, or unusual, state of the art heating systems he replied, “not noticed any interest in ‘green’ features, no”. ...
