What a very intersting article. I have been plastering for twenty years and in my experience lime is not used in general renovation work to anywhere near it's potential. I learned the trade as an 'improver' in the 80's when the general mix for render was good old 3 and 1 (sand:cement). I have since learned the error of my ways and use lime as a cement replacement in many applications. However, the general thinking (at least in the South Wales area) still seems to be 3 and 1 for everything! I have worked with tradesmen who refuse to use lime!
Is lime more environmentally freindly purely because of the manufacturing process? I am familiar with the process for cement but not lime. Is the difference significant in terms of embodied energy?
